Where cutting-edge science meets inclusive collaboration
Open Positions
We welcome passionate and collaborative scientists at all career stages — including research specialists, postdoctoral fellows, PhD students, master’s students, post-baccalaureate fellows, and undergraduates. If your expertise lies outside our core areas, we are equally excited to explore creative ways to integrate your perspective and skills into our research.
Our lab investigates the functional principles, development, and computational properties of organism-wide circuits for brain-body interactions. We are an interdisciplinary team spanning engineering, neuroscience, developmental biology, genetics, applied math, and physics — united by curiosity and a drive to understand how the brain coordinates whole-body physiology. We invite scientists from both within and beyond these fields to join us in developing new approaches to unravel the complexity of organism-wide physiology and behavior.
1. Postdoctoral Fellows
Please email Luis (luishdzn@stanford.edu) a short description of your research interests and attach your CV.
Prospective postdoctoral fellows are also encouraged to apply through Stanford’s programs:
- Stanford Science Fellows Program
- Propel Postdoctoral Scholarship
You can also meet us through the Stanford Postdoctoral Recruitment Initiative in Sciences and Medicine (PRISM).
All accepted postdocs receive individualized mentorship on identifying and securing external and/or internal fellowships. Exceptional candidates may also be supported directly through our active research grants.
Our mentorship goal for postdoctoral fellows is to provide the guidance and support necessary to achieve a scientific breakthrough or develop a transformative innovation or tool that can form the foundation of an independent research career/program in academia or industry.
2. PhD Students
If you have been admitted to any science or engineering PhD program (in any school or department) at Stanford University, please email Luis (luishdzn@stanford.edu) a short description of your research interests and attach your CV.
We will have an opening for a rotation student starting in March 2026. If your program requires you to select a lab by that time, please reach out to Luis — we can request an exception from your program to accommodate the rotation.
3. Master’s thesis students
If you are enrolled in a research-intensive Master’s program in engineering, physics, applied math, or neuroscience, please email Luis a short description of your interests, the expected duration of full-time research in your program, and attach your CV.
We have had extraordinary thesis students, primarily from the Technical University of Munich, Neuroengineering Master’s Program. Students seeking to carry out their master’s thesis through an extended full-time research placement (nine months or longer) are encouraged to contact Luis regarding available opportunities.
4. Postbac fellows
If you are completing your undergraduate studies or have recently graduated and would like to gain two years of full-time research experience before applying to PhD programs, please contact Luis and include your CV.
We encourage prospective postbac fellows to apply through Stanford’s REACH program if eligible. There will be an information session on January 9th. Register here.
5. Undergraduate students
If you are a Stanford undergraduate passionate about research and innovation, please email Luis a brief description of your interests and include your CV.
We welcome students from all academic backgrounds.
